Hailing from the southern hemisphere, Viviana Casanova has found her way to the heart of the global electronic music scene. Born in Chile and now based in Spain, she has developed an inexhaustible passion and a unique style. Drawing inspiration from the blues and jazz of her childhood and the pulsating clubs of Barcelona, she has developed a groovy tech house/techno sound combining funk, hip-hop and danceable depth. Through her label, VASSNOVA, she gives her music a home and offers a platform to other artists, setting an example of independence and empowerment for female musicians.
From her early residency gigs in smaller clubs, through a formative residency at the legendary Pacha Barcelona from 2016, to being accepted into the global Elrow party community, Viviana has steadily risen to prominence, bringing clarity and groove to her music. Her DJ sets are characterised by self-assurance and musicality – deep basslines, bouncy rhythms, and an openness to diversity. She proves that electronic music can embrace origin, soul and diversity.
With the launch of her label, VASSNOVA, in 2020, she demonstrated that creative independence and entrepreneurial confidence go hand in hand. Her first singles, “One, Two, Three, Four,” “Trouble,” “Sorry Not Sorry,” and “Piscis,” marked the beginning of this journey. Subsequently, she opened the label as a platform for producers from all over the world, providing a space for voices beyond the mainstream. Of particular note is the track ‘Out of Space’, which was catapulted into the Beatport Top 10 in 2023 thanks to a remix by producer Dosem. The ‘Automatic EP’, released in 2024 on the ‘We Are The Brave’ label, further demonstrates the direction of her creative journey: powerful techno with sonic force and rave DNA.
She has been performing live all over the world for a long time, in clubs and at festivals such as Decibel Open Air (Italy), Monegros Festival (Spain), Airbeat One (Germany), The Warehouse Project (UK) and the Balaton Festival (Hungary), as well as at clubs in Ibiza such as DC-10 and Amnesia, and at trendy venues in Australia. Her music connects continents and crowds.
What makes Viviana special is her blend of musical depth, heritage, and clear vision. Rather than living the clichéd DJ lifestyle, she builds structures with her label, releases and attitude. She is an example to women and marginalised voices of how to play a part in, and become a co-creator of, the electronic music cosmos. Her story is inspiring and shows that sound, empowerment and artistic freedom go hand in hand.
