JakoJako (born Sibel Jacqueline Koçer) is one of the most exciting voices on the contemporary electronic music scene. The Berlin-based DJ, producer, composer and modular synthesis pioneer is also renowned for her live performances. Having grown up with a curiosity for techno and a love of unconventional sounds, she has carved out a distinctive place for herself by combining analogue technology with emotional depth and an understanding of sound as a living language. As a resident at the legendary Berghain club, she occupies a space famous not only for its musical range, but also as a beacon for women in an otherwise male-dominated technical world.
Her musical journey began not in the studio, but in the laboratory of modular synthesis. Driven by the question of how electronic music really works and how sound can be used to shape spaces and emotions, she found her path. Her debut EP, Aequilibration (2019), released on Leisure System, demonstrated her ability to combine intense, atypical techno experiments with subtle emotionality — a sonic signature that runs through all her work. Since then, she has released other notable EPs, such as ‘Segmente’ on NovaMute, which emerged directly from her live performances, showcasing a hybrid combination of rhythmic power and introspective sound work.
As a woman in the electronic music scene, JakoJako has not only stood behind the decks, but has also often been seen controlling her Eurorack system — a visible statement of empowerment that combines technical and creative authority. Her performances at clubs such as Berghain in Berlin, Fold in London, The Bassement in Madrid and festivals including Dekmantel, Intercell, ADE, Brunch Electronik, Stone Techno and Awakenings, and cultural institutions such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre demonstrate her ability to break down boundaries and rethink sound spaces, inspiring others to assert themselves in a scene where technology and performance are often viewed separately.
Her artistic development is characterised by radical independence. She creates music not only in the studio, but also on stage, engaging directly with her equipment and audience while following her intuition. She consistently works with modular and analogue synthesis, using these instruments as living partners in the creative process rather than as effects. Each live set thus becomes a unique encounter between machine and human — a moment of collective ecstasy that is both technically precise and emotionally open.
Her productions and remixes display an enormous stylistic range, from driving techno structures and ambient-rooted soundscapes to melodic fragments that blur the boundaries between the dance floor and an introspective listening journey. She has collaborated with artists such as Rødhåd (“In Vere”, 2022) and produced remixes for acts including New Order and Martin Gore, highlighting her integration into the global electronic music scene.
JakoJako embodies artistic depth, technical excellence and an attitude that organically intertwines female identity and artistic authority. She uses her platform to promote not only her own music, but also to share her knowledge of synthesis and performance through guest appearances, collaborative projects and her former role at SchneidersLaden, Berlin’s centre for modular electronics, where she passed on her expertise to the next generation. JakoJako is thus more than just a DJ or producer; she is a pioneer who combines technical mastery with emotional sound architecture, inspiring women in the electronic scene who want to be heard, seen, and understood.
